Tentative Information for Brook Sesquicentennial Celebration
July 1, 2, 3 & 4th

   Saturday July 1st, 2006

   There will be four-day slow pith softball Tournament's for both Men and Women.

   Quilt Show in Comm. Center Gym begins at 10:00 am. - Mary Kay Wilson Chairman

   Threshing demo at the Conservation Club - 1:00 pm

             Marvin Whaley  - Provided the land and wheat.
             Don Furrer  - Will provide the equipment
             John Taylor, Jeff Light, Donnie Smith and Larry Strole will bring antiques tractors
             to help with this demo.  Numerous volunteers are needed to guide us.  If you

 

            wish to volunteer, call Larry Lyons 275-4355.

    Remington Poultry & Catering - Chicken Supper at Comm. Center Gym 5-7 pm.

    Portrayal of past Brook, Iroquois Twp. & Washington Twp. Citizens 7:30 - 10 pm.
    Contact Larry Lyons 275-4355 if you wish to Volunteer.

    Volunteers are needed to portray their ancestors or people of  interest in our past.  A
     ten-minute explanation of how family came to Brook, how they lived or an interesting
     or funny family story.

     People who have already volunteered:
                   Larry Lyons to portray John W. Lyons, one of the earliest settlers.
                  Marian Strosinski to portray immigrant Mother whose child died and is the
                  first grave in Riverside Cemetery.
                  Janet Miller to portray Lillie Herriman, Mother of the six very athletic son's.
                  Ted Hamacher to portray the Hamacher family.
                  Tom Antcliff to portray the Antcliff family.
                  Carol Light to portray Eunice Park.

     We need volunteers to portray the following families of earlier settlers, Barten, Cline,
      Cooper, Danruther, Ekstrom, Herath, Hershman, Hess, Honn, Lawrence, Lyons,
      Reed, Schuette, Weishaar, Wilson, Buswell, Kenoyer, Light, Myers, Padgett, Sell,
      Strole, Troup and Whaley.  If anyone would like to tell about a family not mentioned,
      that can also be arranged by contacting Larry Lyons.

      Individual people to be portrayed: George Ade, John Connell, Dad Clinton, Don
      Berlin, Doc Collier, Doc. Pippenger, Ralph Lomax, Art Irwin, Paul Weston, Murt
      and Buck Harrington or anybody else not mentioned can also be arranged by
      contacting Larry Lyons.

     Sunday July 2nd, 2006

     9:30 am - 5 Area Churches will do a combined morning service in McKinley Park.
     Gospel Singers: Joy Sounds & Gospel Quartet from Jasper County.

      12:00 Noon - meal at United Methodist Church Chicken Noodles, Mashed Potatoes,
      Green Beans and Dessert, completely catered by Country Gals Catering.

      Brook and George Ade Memorabilia Auction. Proceeds can be ear marked to go

     Monday July 3rd, 2006

      B-B-Q Pork Dinner in the School Park 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

     Melodrama in evening in the gym: 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm.
     Margie Kindig, Barb Gerbhracht are the ones in charge of the Melodrama.

     Tuesday July 4th, 2006

     Opening Ceremony by Boy Scouts at the flag pole by Town Hall 9:30 am.
      Joy Sounds to sing at flag pole by Town Hall.

      Parade starts at 10:00 am.

      Plan to have Antique Tractors and Model A & T's Cars in the parade plus several
      other exciting attractions and people, plus some surprises.

     Norm's Pork Chop Dinner at 12:00 noon.

     Music in the afternoon will be furnished by the Community Band, Burnett Creek Blue
     Grass Band, Dr. Hoover's Rock & Roll Band.  More later on Band times.

     Raffle

     Moonwalk and other inflated games available all day on the Fourth of July.

     Fireworks starting at Dusk.

General Information

     A very important date is May 13, 2006.  The 100th Brook Alumni gathering will take
      place at the Community Center.  Please come if you can and make this a gala
      celebration.  Order your tickets at the Community State Bank 224 W. Main St., PO
      Box 157, Brook, IN 47922, Phone# 219-275-2441.

     At the Brook, Public Library, 100 W. Main St., Brook In 47922, you may order your
     Book on Brook, Iroquois Township and Washington Township.  The price of the
     book will be $40.00.  It is around 850 pages.  Library's number is 219-275-2471.
     You do not have to pay for the book now but it would be nice for us to have your
     order.  Both of the Township Trustees, the Newton County Historical Society and the
     Brook Town Board have helped with the expenses.  All the people who worked on
     the book have volunteered their time, which was a tremendous help in keeping the
     price of the book down.  The publishers have promised to have the book ready for
     sale on May 13, 2006, so at the Alumni you can pick up your book.  Please pay at
     that time.

    We hope to have the George Ade home open to the public during the celebration on
     the 4th of July.

    Cannon to be fired on July 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, if possible.

    Have Birthday Cake and Punch, served June 26th, 2006, some place in town.  This is
    Brook's actual Founding Date.

    More specific information will come as we get closer to actual happing of the
